That one is the male and he's looking a bit cross at something Kevin - not you I hope!
They're also known as the white-eyed duck and they are the only true diving duck found in Australia. Mainly east coast but we do have them here on our local lake.

Thanks for the info , I think the female was playing hard to get as he was pursuing a similar bird around the lake.
