  • Tawny Frogmouths

Three Tawny Frogmouths are roosting in a tree in our back yard at the moment - looks like two adults and a young. They are well screened by twigs and branches but here are some fairly clear shots.

They are easily missed with their good camoflage. Lovely detail
Better a full bottle in front of me
    than a full frontal lobotomy.

Thank you. I hadn't noticed them, it was my son who pointed them out to me,

You should see if you can get all three in the same picture. The dynamic of how they sit is fasinating. One will always have eyes open and when that one closes eyes another opens theirs, The two that have eyes closed always pose at random angles to look like foliage.

Thanks but not possible in this case because of all the twigs and branches close in front of them.

That's an excellent shot. Very considerate of them to sit in the open for you.

Thanks Phil. As well as occasional frogmouths, I also get all the leaves twigs and branches dropped by the now too large trees.

They are all cracker shots Alan. I love the colours, so much like the tree bark.

They are hard to spot; my son actually pointed these out to me. They roost in my back yard from time to time, but your suburb may be too neat and tidy. Easy to photograph if you can get a clear shot as you can walk right up to them and they don't move.

It's good they sit still for you - makes for getting good POV.
