Pied Stilt

The deepest lake at Eagleby Wetlands is getting lower and lower but it suited these Pied Stilt. The didn't seem to concerned by my presence. I took so many photos I had trouble choosing a few to post.

I started out hiding in the bushes but when they didn't seem bothered by me I moved down to the almost dried edge of the lake bed trying for a lower angle.

They do make for good reflection shots Alan, these are fabulous. They always look so prim and proper and very genle.
They're called Black-Winged stilts over this way - same bird though

I could not find any differences between the 2 varieties. Have you got anything that differentiates the 2 species?

No. Perhaps it is based on geographical distribution, but that doesn't seem enough on its own. It will be covered in a scientific paper somewhere.

If it's a particular bird then geo shouldn't be a part of it's naming - that's just plain stupid. It just causes confusion. I bet there would be an uproar if they did that to migratory birds.
