  • Whistling Kites

    Spotted on the Murray River (S.A.). They hunt their prey along the limestone cliff faces and are skilled at diving and swooping at great speeds to catch a meal.

    Lovely birds. We have the Red Kite in abundance now. (They were all shot years ago, but have been re-introduced 20+ years ago)

        Thanks guys. They are very similar to the Red Kite Mark. I did a quick read up on them. It was a fascinating story about the Reds almost becoming extinct. The ones who cared enough brought them back to great numbers. It shows we can right the wrongs of those who destroy nature.

        Alan, when they are just gliding they are going fairly slowly, which is a perfect time to get them on the wing.
