  • More from yesterday at Tygum Park

The Jacanas are usually quite shy but I noticed a couple quite close to the path, ignoring people passing by. There are metre high bushes beside the path and these don't allow a good angle on birds on the surface. I managed to find a clear spot and lay prone on the bank to get these shots.

    1. Comb-crested Jacana. What long toes you have.

Great series Alan. Those jacs are very colourful. I think the birds just get used to humans floating about and simply adjust to sharing the zone with other animals too.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks Isac. The Jacanas are mostly still shy. I think these were young ones hatched here.

It won't be long before they come up to you wanting treats

The swans, ducks and moorhens do, but I can't see the Jacanas doing so.
