Thanks Phil. It's a bit soft but through a grubby window gives the feeling I was hoping to capture.

I feel cold just looking at it. Nicely framed and it captures the gloom and cold very well.

If it was taken through glass, I've found that that can soften the image, but it depends on the quality of the glass. My kitchen window is hopeless so I remove the sliding pane and insect screen but I wouldn't be even opening it in those conditions.

Also I think your lens has image stabilisation. I would be inclined to use that and lower the shutter speed to lower the ISO. A much slower shutter speed with IS should be fine for a stationary subject, although you might need to take a few frames to ensure the bird hasn't moved. It depends on the camera but 1/400 at f/5.6 would have given an ISO of about 1000. I apologise if I'm telling you stuff you already know. After saying all that this image looks fine at this size.

Thanks for your input Alan. The kitchen window is probably in need of cleaning (but not in this weather) so that definitely didn't help.
I have no problem with constructive criticism / suggestions and you're right about the settings, but I saw him while making breakfast and just grabbed the camera. I didn't even consider the settings, which were probably what I was using the last time I had the Sigma attached.

That bird has the look of someone who's fed up with everything. Nice shot.

I have friends who live in Barnsley and their yard is covered in snow. Worst they've seen in ten years.
