Thanks David, the confusion of common names. They are interesting birds, though. They use the heat of the decaying leaf litter to incubate their eggs, and apparently adjust the height to maintain the correct temperature.
Unfortunately, they have adapted to suburbia and can make a mess of your garden by raking stuff up.
Thanks Stephen. I wasn’t set up for birds and a longer lens wouldn’t have helped anyway, because of the surrounding bush, but it let me get fairly close before it wandered off.
