  • Dusky Moorhen and chicks, and a Magpie Lark

I took two of the grandkids to this park yesterday, without the camera, and saw these Dusky Moorhen with chicks on a nest less than a metre from the boardwalk.

The children were dropping pieces of lettuce to the birds and they would eat some, then give some to the chicks.

Went back this morning and they had all left the nest and moved away, but that gave me a better angle and I did get a few pics.

All well detailed and lovely shots Alan. The bub looks similar to the Coots. That muddie is a great shot too - beautiful reflective colours and good bokeh. I'm surprised you didn't take your camera to the park.

Thanks Isac. I normally take it but had some other tasks to do as well and the kids only wanted the playground, definitely no feeding ducks. Of course once at the lake they didn’t want to leave.

Super Moor Hen photos. They are little cuties when chicks. I claim to be a grandad of a local moorhen chick. Whilst clearing a pond of reeds, a little one swum out to see what was going on. I picked it up, and returned it to the well hidden nest. All at our local Wildlife Centre (WWT, Llanelli)..

Beautiful shots. Love the interesting between the parent and the chick.

Beatiful pics. Those chicks are ugly though.

Thanks Hans, they look like little old men. Ugly but kind of cute too.

Thanks, yes that one is my favourite too. There is usually something to photograph at these dams and ponds.
