It's a very friendly place here at the lake.

I like the birds in the first one better than the second, but I feel the tree overpowers them. think the light gets the eyes better in the first also. you set the bar high with the coot but these not do it for me

Nice shots. The tree does steal the show a bit in the first one.
      Fujifilm X-T5, XF16-80 f/4, XF70-300 f/4-5.6, XF23 f/2, XF35 f/2, XF150-600 f/5.6-8, and a random assortment of 35mm film cameras.

I think the second shot had more potential if a bit more time had been spent on the composition.

The way they were all relaxing around the tree was the inspiration for the shot but I guess I failed with that idea. Win some, lose some
Hans, you said "bit more time had been spent on the composition". Can you tell me where I failed and what you would have done to improve it?

feel free to completely disagree or throw it in my face in future but most composition rules reqiure some flow or regular repetition.

Let the following be a guide for the future and - Youre welcome.

I must admit I was cackeling away when I did the above. and I'm sure it gave you a giggle. That does look a lot more interesting though,

I like them. Birds never sit exactly where you would like them so you take them as they are, in a natural pose, manipulating the image to be perfect defeats the purpose of capturing them in their natural setting. Just my opinion of course.

My original cc was not meant to imply such gross manipulation more a change of view or perspective by choosing a different location or lens. Just manipulation of a different sort I suppose. My manipulation was a tongue in cheek spoof on that. A metaphor so to speak. .

Thanks Kevin - appreciated. I am at a disadvantage on my walks at the lake because I have a very active Cavoodle on a leash pulling me in any direction that he wants to go - and that's usually in the opposite direction to where I'm going. I took the shots because I just loved being near the birds and enjoyed the feeling of calm while just watching them relaxing with each other in our own little patch of paradise.
