we often see these on here of flying by. the mournful cry is unmistakable. we heard the cry and a munch munch sound so it sounded like they may have been feeding and low so homed in on the noises and there they were. luckily down a small gully so that you could get at eye level. due to thick is cover they werent overly concerned by my presence either.
got quite a few pix of the feeding behaviour. not out in the open at any stage but I figured that if you could see what they were doing, it was fair game.

I love the black cockatoos Stephen. You've captured them feeding on what is a delicacy for them. They also love pine cones for their dessert.
These are actually the male which has the pink eye surround with the black beak. It's the female which has a lighter coloured beak and grey around the eye.

I was a volunteer (in IT) at Kaarakin (Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre) and got up close and personal with the birds, able to take lots of photos. They care for injured birds and rehabilitate them to be released back into the wild. We have mainly the Red-Tails here in WA and don't see the Yellow Tails. We also have the Baudin's and Carnaby's.

thanks mate. you are right. I have missidentified both cociatoo posts I put up. thread titles now edited to reflect the correct sexes. (not sure I had that ability before?)
we get mainly sulphur crested around here but quite a few yellow tailed, glossy blacks, short and long billed corellas, gang gangs and galahs.

A cluttered environment Stephen but you have managed clear shots of them enjoying the Banksias. The background is a bit busy, but shows their environment and complements the birds rather than being distracting.

Pls consider increasing saturation on the bird & the food while de saturating and blurring a tad bit the background so the eyes will move towards the subject
