  • Australasian Grebes

I had a wander around Eagleby Wetlands this morning and saw many species but didn't manage to get many shots.

The first birds I saw were these grebes but they were really too far away, but I took a couple of shots because the reflections were good.

Before I left back to where they were and sat down to see if they would come closer. They did eventually but the wind had come up by then and destroyed the reflections, but I did manage to get both in the frame and in focus.

Beautiful Alan. Like you, I love to grab them as they just float around the lake.

Thanks Isac, they are beautiful little birds.

Fine shots. What species are they? They look almost exactly like the little grebes we have here but not 100% sure.
Always feel free to rip apart any image of mine I post.

Thanks Phil. It’s Tachybaptus novaehollandiae and they do look very similar, if not identical.

The Little Grebe is Tachybaptus ruficollis so same genus.
