  • A few more birds from Eagleby Wetlands

A few more birds from yesterday's outing to Eagleby.

    1. Australasian Grebe. This and the moorhen were really too far away but the reflections were nice.

Is it just me but it looks like the little Grebe's seem to be a couple of shades darker than usual.
This is the same as the ones just over the road from home. They to look darker this years.
I understand about breeding colours can and do change the colour but with these I thought this was the yellow strip down the beak shows up.
But this is just a question on them and I do like the others, with the last one not being here so I would like to get that one.
    Well done.

Thanks Ralph. The grebes breeding colours include a darker head and the chestnut stripe on the neck. I think this one might look darker because of the somewhat shaded area. You could be right about the darker colour but I hadn’t noticed.

Excellent series Alan, as usual. I like the way the grebes always seem to turn away when they know you're there. I don't mind it, I think their backsides are cute! I do like the woodies, they are so petite and dainty. Another cracker of the cisticola

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks isac. Yes, the grebes are quite shy and I usually get them swimming away, and yes their backsides are cute.
