I just came across an image from 2020 that I hadn't processed, probably because I preferred the pose in another shot. I found the colours and detail on the bird's breast interesting enough to process it.

I have cropped this more closely than I usually would to show the detail. There is a bit of noise due to the low light/high ISO but it's not too bad.

    Nikon D800, Nikkor 500mm PF f/5.6. 1/320 f/5.6 ISO 3200. Spot metered - which I rarely use.

I personally have only one photo of these and it was a fluke shot at that.
Would like to head to where these are and get a few more shot, as they are quite different tot he miners we have here and no I don't mean the Miner.
Lucky for us it has reached this far yet.
    Like this shot.

Thanks Ralph. They are not easy to get as they tend to stay fairly high. This was at a small pool where birds were coming down to bathe and drink.

    G'day Alan

Wonderful image and certainly one you can show off to all concerned!

Very nice Alan. Clean and sharp features and beautiful colours. Not a fan of the angle, prefer horizontal so I don't have to tilt my head, which was my first response, but others don't seem to mind it.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Thanks Isac. The camera was horizontal, the bird is tilted. I hadn’t even thought about levelling it. To straighten it I would need to create some new background in my looser crop, but I could do that.

I thought the angle of the branch was "as is" so no big deal. I already did a quick edit and it was easy as and it looks like a different image. When I straightened it, it gave a totally different look to the bird's expression as if it was saying "That's close enough buddy, don't come any nearer!"
