  • Scaly-breasted Lorikeets

Only the other day I was talking to someone at the lake about rarely seeing these birds anymore. I glanced out the window while preparing dinner this evening and saw there was a flock in the Umbrella Tree. Left the dinner and grabbed the camera. The sun was setting and the whole area was in shade so had to rely on a relatively show shutter-speed and vibration reduction.

Not as colourful as the Rainbow Lorikeets but just as noisy.

All with Nikon D800 and Nikkor 500mm PF f/5.6

I have only seen these once with my own eyes and it was at a distance.
I would love to get shots as these that you have posted. But this being said it now gives me a target to try to get to.
Thanks for this as it is always good to see really good shots.

Thanks Ralph. I’ve been wanting decent shots of these for a long time.

Well mate you certainly have got them now. I hope one day to be in an area where these are and to get a few shots and if half as good I will be happy.
