#2 I love the texture in the branch that they are perched on.

#1. Nice framing and I like the pose with both facing the same way, but the contrast and texture looks a bit strong here

#2. I like everything about this, including the texture of the log. Excellent shot.

Agreed ...... #2 is the 'winner' and makes for a damn fine pic

Thank you Phil and Alan for your insightful comments. There is definitely something not quite right with #1, I will revisit the imaga and see what I can do to fix it.
Just so you know Phil #1 was taken with my 7DII and Siggy 150-600, and #2 was taken with the FZ300.

Here's another try at #1. I think that I went too far in ACR trying to boost sharpnes and clarity when it wasn't really needed. A lot less fiddling in this image, just a curves adjustment to lighten shadows.

That looks a lot better John. The light looks different between the original #1 and #2. Was it the light or the cameras?

#2 is after I did a curves adjustment on #1.

Pretty good shots John - I like. Cute little birds that I haven't seen before, so thanks for showing. I think a shadows adjustment may work as well on #1. I had to have a play so I added a curves layer and 2 Hue/Sat layers with masks and it worked a treat. I'll send the PSD file so you can see the different layers and settings.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.
