  • Some Birds of Spicers Gap, Qld

These are from a drive out to Spicers Gap, about an hour and half away, in October last year. These were all taken in a couple of hours sitting near a small spring. I actually have a few more, but this is more than enough for one post.

All with D800 and Nikon 500PF f/5.6 and quite heavily cropped.

I just get broken links and no images. What do others see?

Images didn’t show until I logged in just now. The browser did hang while I was creating the post and I restored from the autosaved version and continued. Perhaps this caused the the issue. I’ll either fix it or repost

Glad you got it sorted Alan. Those bird images are amazing, you seem to have a great skill in getting the details and colours perfect. Lovely framing as well. Nice work and well presented.

Thanks Isac. The new lens helps and also the hazy overcast on this day, although the shadows from all the trees made it a bit dark. The seemingly endless procession of birds coming to bathe and drink gave lots of opportunities.

The colours just happen with a bit of help from Tonal Contrast in the Nik Color Effex Photoshop plug-in.

All good to know mate. I have NIK installed but rarely use it these days. I'm at the stage where I like to put the skills I've learned to apply my own adjustments. NIK is pretty powerful but for me the challenge is to get similar results by not using it - if you know what I mean. Whatever you're doing - it's working well for you.

All great images Alan, great detail and colours. An hour and a half not too long a drive if you can come away with shots like these.
