Lovely photo of the Superb Fairy Wren (Male). They change their colour every year from a dull brown to that bright blue. The "ladies" are just brown and mate with many males. They can alter the size of the laid eggs to to help the chicks survive in the harsher climates. Fascinating birds. I once watched one perched on my car mirror and it it kept jumping down to see its reflection, while it sang its mating song.I Shoot A Canon

Hi Isac ... didn't know the males changed colours - I thought they were blue all year round

It's not a hard and fast rule but they shed their feathers and they are replaced by the blue ones, prior to mating. I read about this a long time ago. Here's some more info:

Thanks,they are sweet little birds,the one here in Brissie are blue year round,the juvi males start of brown but change when they mature,Dad then chases them out of the Family group and they start their own group.C+C,EDITS OK
