Fuji X-T1, 18-55 kit lens @55mm. I was having to step back he was tapping the front element of the lens with his beak.

G'day mate
Tapping the lens - golly, how tame or otherwise was this bird?
Anyway - great eye/s showing concentration - fluffy little feathers around the face, stuff we don't usually get to see in such detail

Not tame at all. Kookaburras are fearless around his area. They know nobody is going to hurt them and they know that they were here first. Getting within touching distance is not usually a problem and they will happily take live worms and the like off your hand if you hold it out..
