Some images from Jells Park and Shepherd's Bush in the S.E. Melbourne area.
If anyone feels that I have identified any of these birds incorrectly please advise.

#2 Eurasian Coote. This image absolutely breaks the rule of thirds rule, but I really like the circle of ripples coming out from the bird.

#1 - Very good detail. Next time, call it's name so he turns and looks at the camera or throw it a prawn.
#2 - 1.55° turn to the right puts the ripples horizontally more appealing.
#3 - Great image, good exposure. Just needs shadows lift on heads. My pic!
#4 - Not a lot of BG separation, hence you lose definition of the subject/s.
#5 - see above. Might be a challenge to recolour the BG and give it some blur to show off the subject/s
#6 - Never seen one before. Just needs the face brightened up, which then may need a slight saturation boost.
#7 - see #3.

Do you think that the Magpie-lark needs a lift all over, or just the face?

Maybe all over would be better. Perhaps changing the black to a pleasant "Navy Blue" would give it much more appeal

Thanks Isac, I have named the images appropriately.

I have a spreadsheet with all the birds ID along with pics so it's easy for me to refer to. It grows slowly and is a good way to save the info. I only store the name and small photo. If I need any more details it's easy to get it online, once you have the name of the bird. I sometimes put a web link in as well for quick access.

interesting series. number 3 is a clear winner for me. I wonder also if you could add some contrast to the water around the bird to milk some more gold out of it.
some useful critique already posted here. which is a good thing. head turn and perceived eye contact would help a few of these to pop. some shadow boosting on a few too, particularly the fantails. possibly avoided if you could get the light behind you overall. sharpness and stuff looks good too. nice job

Thanks Stephen, the Fantails are what they are as the lighting was not kind. Still learning the basics with my bird photography, but I feel that I am progressing, not nearly as many end up in the bin .
