  • Sacred Kingfisher.

I was beginning to think that Sacred Kingfishers were only seen on the East Coast BUT much to my delight and excitement, I spotted one hopping between the trees at our lake.
As you might have guessed, I took quite a few shots, because I've never seen one in the flesh. I assumed they were the same size as a Kookaburra but they are only half the size.

Nice catch, they are beautiful birds,we get them all over the place here.#3+4 would be my pick, the light is showing his colours nicely.

Cheers Kevin. You are lucky to have them flitting about where you are. They are probably around here a bit more as well, it's just that I've not noticed them before.

Thanks Phil. First time seeing them so I'm just pleased to add them to the collection.

Fantastic images there Isac. I prefer #1 & #2 with the wooded background, I feel that the impact of the Kingfisher's colours get lost against the blue sky.
I really need to get out more and go looking for some native birdlife now that I've got the necessary glass.

Well spotted and thanks for the CC. I might drop a grey cloudy sky in to see if it helps with the colours.

nice series. prefer the light in the first couple. some shadow/hightlight may well improve the others too.
as for the rework, I personally think the bright bit top left pulls the eye. would be much stronger with a uniform dark background imho

Thanks Stephen. All noted. I repaired the grey sky BG to make it more uniform. Maybe make it darker as well?

significant improvement imho. what do you think?
as for darker or not, this will come down to personal pref. I reckon it is good as is.

Thank you Ross. I couldn't believe my luck when it flew into the tree that I was standing under. Never seen one around here before.
