  • 3-in-row -- Black cockies seeking new sights & sounds

    G'day all

On my pre-brekky walk this morning and while crossing the Forster-Tuncurry bridge over Wallis Lake, I spotted a group of 8 or 9 birds, possibly black cockies way-way away but coming towards me. Clicking the FZ into "4k"mode for fast shooting also drops it into 8mpx mode, down from 20mpx as normal ... but it does give me images at 30fps which is most useful at times

So here's one of those images - sooc except for a 'gentle' NR, cropped to 16x9 format
    exif- Panny FZ-2500, lens at 24x zoom / 720mm FF equiv; 1/2000s x F9 @ ISO-800 ~ distance to subject .... about 300 to 350 metres

You'll see by the last line in my signature Phil, that I love these iconic birds - we have lost so many of them by destroying their habitat. Your image is fabulous and would look good on the wall - with a slightly bluer sky of course. We have an huge aviary where visitors can interact with them and they are just beautiful - every visitor loves them. TFS.

Well captured. That seems a lot of set up to go to. I just have my camera set to shoot multiples if I keep my finger on the button. Get the occasional unintentional double. Did manage three pics of a bloke jumping of a cliff at no notice.

          G'day Hans

Setting up is a simple twist of the left-side control dial ... single pic / burst / 4K mode / self timer
The rest is the usual setting "S" mode plus speed, leaving ISO on auto to 800 and aperture to the meter

Overall, shooting in 4k mode sounds like a quiet machine gun going click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click at 30fps with full AF as best the camera can make it all happen

Once I have finished shooting in 4k mode, the images are in a stack - so at my leisure I put on my close-up specs !!!!! to view the LCD screen at home and just press 'next' - 'next' - save if appropriate - 'next' and so on. This leaves me with individual images for further pp as needed

Soon after the 7Dii came out I was in Japan and had a play with one and loved the speed at which it would take pictures. I believe the Sony is quicker again. Another year or two and I may have learned how to use the EOS R
