Not a good image IQ wise as I had the 17-70 lens of today. I hope it's good enough for someone to identify there birds. There are quite a few around the local lake and they are quite skittish and I have not been able to get a decent shot of them with the 70-200.

Thanks mate, I really need a bird book if I'm going to be doing this sort of thing on a regular basis.
Good nesw is that the minister of finance has given me the go ahead to get the Siggy 150-600m but I'm going to have to wait a while as we have just had to pay $2000 for car repair/service. Split intercooler hose and 105K service which requires a new timing belt.

Go you! I'd get the Tamron, but I know you prefer Sigma You'll love the extra zoom to your 200.
Not good about the bill for the car fix - YUK!
When mine run out of warranty, I run out and trade it in! No major repair bills.

I haven't totally ruled out the Tamron, but the Sigma has a better IS system (from what I've read) and I need all the help I can get with a lens this long.
