Despite having plenty of these birds around here, they prove to be difficult subjects, due to their quick movements amongst the trees. A bit of patience paid off yesterday when I found this one in one of the trees on the edge of my backyard.

Like the way the bird pops out from the dark green background number 3 has it by a whisker if I had to vote on them.

#3 for me Ironwood. It's poking it's chest out proudly and has a nice head turn checking out what else is around other than you. They are all lovely photos. Well done and TFS.

Thanks Hans, Todd, and Isac. Yeah it’s #3 for me as well.
The bird pops so well from the background because of the flash from the Better Beamer.
          Cheers, Brad.

Is the following an accurate review of the BB?

Well I would have to agree with him about it being a bit flimsy. Mine lives on one of my flashes and I don’t take it anywhere but my backyard, so I have never had any problems with it. My biggest gripe,is the flash head detents don’t make it a simple matter of aligning the beam with the lens, I have a piece of rubber stuck in between the flash body and head to make things line up. He doesn’t go into how it actually improves your photos in the field, I have read better reviews.
I have heard about the Magmod, it came out after I bought the Beamer, I like the fact that it directs all the light through the lens unlike the BB. I don’t know how much heavier it is than the BB, that could be a problem for some. The weight of the camera, lens, and flash becomes quite heavy after handholding for an hour or so.

Thanks Brad. I guess that you're in a pretty unique position having such a wide variety of wildlife in your back yard, you don't have to travel vast distances to get some remarkable images.

Excellent shots Brad. #1 has potential with the fruit in its beak if the bird could be brightened. The other two are outstanding.

Thanks Alan. I might have a play with #1 and see what I can do.

          I had a play around with #1.
Some rotation,a tighter crop, desaturated the greens a bit. With NIK Viveza, boosted the brightness of the bird, and reduced some shadow on the berry in its mouth.
