  • Sunbird

We have had the Yellow-bellied Sunbirds feeding in this tree beside my house. 8 to 10 meters is about as close as I can get ( unless I get up on the roof ) so I have had to crop about 40% to arrive at this shot. I took this one today using the D7100 and Tamron 150-600 and Better Beamer set to 1/8th.

A couple more I have taken over the last few days, I took some with the flash, and some without.
These are all males with the blue feathers under the neck.

You've done well to capture them Brad. Last month when I was up in Cairns there was a pair of them with a nest and young 'uns under the patio roof. Try as I might I could not get a decent shot, they were too damn fast.

Great shots Ironwood, that rig you use seems to be giving you excellent results. I love the colours in all of these from the birds to those lovely pinks.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

My pathetic attempt with my iPhone 6 at max zoom. I had to dig this image out of the recycle bin .

That one you got there is a female John. All yellow up the neck, the ones I have in my photos there are males with the blue under the neck.

Yeah, she was a bit easier to photograph as she would stop to feed her chicks. The boy never stopped, always on the go.

Cheers Isac. I can get a few shots here and there that I am relatively happy with, but this lens is driving me crazy at the moment with its AF, works one minute, very slow focus the next minute, then it won't focus at all, then it works again but is back focusing or front focusing. It's worst in low light, which is where the birds always seem to be at my place. I'll replace it with something else one day, trouble is the lens I want is far too expensive
          Cheers, Brad.

Cheers for that Ironwood. I think a lot of lenses struggle for focus in the dark - even I do at my age
What's the lens that you want Santa to bring?
