    Spinebill & Thornbill

    I know that I haven't posted here for a while, but at least I'm here every day looking out for machines/bots/hackers trying to join up.

    The Eastern Spinebill comes every day to a salvia bush outside the kitchen window. I can shoot with the lens propped up against the window and shoot through the glass. As they just won't sit still for more than half a second, I have yet to get a clean shot that I am happy with. But most of these have some good points. I'll keep trying.

    The last bird is a Striated Thornbill I think. Not a frequent visitor, so I was lucky to spot him or her!

    I used a Canon 400mm lens on a 1D3, ISO 800, at f5.6.

      Good to see you making an appearance Charles.

      I like all of these shots and the little Spine-bill is one of my favourite birds. I have a couple of regulars in my fuchsias on a daily basis. They are very flighty but they do become a little more trusting when I just sit quietly by the bushes. I have some beaut shots of them too.

        #1 for me Charles. Even though the bird is partly obscured, the eye and beak are perfect and the extra colour in the frame adds to it.

          They are all good shots Charles. Good job to get the high quality images - you've got some great gear and obviously know how to use it. As you know, being a Photoshop master (just upgraded to CC2018 and it's fabulous), I can only see 2 things that I would edit. #4 I'd put it's beak in front of the blurred salvia bush. I'd just clone a part from another shot. The other is #6 - I'd swap the wire for a skinny tree branch. This is only what I would do and many may disagree but hey, we're all in the one group so it's all good. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to some more wonderful images from you. Cheers Greg.
