  • Little Kingfisher waiting for a snack

    G'day all

Staying at Ingham in northern Qld for a couple of days and noticed this little bloke [and presumably his missus] often sitting on this post & rail fence
I managed to get 2 or 3 before they flitted away ... here's one of them

    exif - Panny FZ-200; 1/640s x F4; 625mm [film camera equiv]; this is a 1200px crop from 4000px full width

    As always, feedback welcome
    Phil

They are a lovely little bird. This one a Sacred Kingfisher by the look of it. There is a good population of them on Lord Howe. Nice catch!

Nice work Phil. It's great that you were able to get close enough for a shot, they play "hard to get" quite often when I am out with my camera.
      Cheers, Brad.

          G'day mate

The 2 of them on the fence were a good 40 metres away and I was using the vehicle as a bird-hide

Fabulous looking bird Phil. Nice capture. Only two featured elements so the eye only wanders between the bird and the fence rail. They have beautiful big eyes so I brightened up that area a bit. I also gave it a bit of positive space in the direction that the bird is looking, more fitting using the ROT. I desaturated the green and slightly pushed up the blue to show off the beautiful colour of it's feathers and it gives a more natural colour to the fence. It's only my thoughts, the better qualified may offer something different.

Okay Isac - all to the good

The wooden fence is / was a green treated-log fence so you have now 'blued' it as well !!
