I snapped this fella surveying the yard after I mowed the grass.

Taken with a D7100 and Tamrom 150-600 @ 600mm, 1/200th, f9, iso400, handheld with Yongnou flash and Better Beamer, flash at 1/16th power.

Very nicely done and can't fault the composition. I like the top shot best!

Cheers Greg. Yes, I think the closer framing has a bit more impact, but I like the other one because the bird is a bit sharper, ( maybe only noticeable when viewing full size)

Great work Ironwood. Good colours and framing (prefer horizontal flip #2). Very photogenic bird. That combo works super for these shots.

Thanks for checking them out Isac and Lloyd. I have had about 50/50 split on people picking their favourite out of these two, but I also prefer #2. Isac, I was pretty frustrated with my camera and lens in my shady backyard until I started using the flash and better beamer, it has made the world of difference. It is quite heavy though. Lloyd, I know that feeling very well . Yesterday I was walking along the edge of the bush near my verandah, I had the macro lens on the camera and I spotted two Wompoo Pigeons on a branch in clear view, about 7 or 8 meters away and on the same level as me. By the time I got back with the long lens setup, they had both moved up higher into the tree, and I couldn't get a clear shot of either one.
