The mudlark, also known as the peewee, peewit or magpie-lark, is a passerine bird native to Australia, Timor and southern New Guinea. The male and female both have black and white plumage, though with different patterns. I took this just to show the wonderful patterns from behind, though not your normal bird shot.

My grandfather had a soft spot for these birds. Reckoned they punched above their weight. He would have liked this.

Thanks Todd. I love watching them fossick around on our lawn, they are quite brave - but not when the Willies are around!

Pretty markings. I haven't seen them here. Good capture of the wagtail!

Thanks Greg, they are rather pretty birds but as they are common as mud, they don't get a second glance.
