  • Mixed Foster parents

One of the remarkable things about the cuckoo feeding sequence I witnessed on Tuesday was the 'chick' was being 'Parented' by two separate species of Honey-Eaters.

To me this would be unusual as the Cuckoo would have been raised from egg in the nest of one or the other.

Here are shots of a Black Headed Honey-Eater and a Strong Billed Honey-Eater sharing Foster Parent duties.

These photos intrigued me Greg, so I did some reading. Apparently the cuckoo is so demanding to be fed, other species come in to feed it! Bizarre behaviour but we as humans probably don't know much about the whys and wherefores of nature. great captures BTW.
