Kookaburras feeding on beetles

This series is from a few years ago. A couple of Kookaburras were flying down to the ground and catching something that I couldn't make out until I opened the photos on the computer..

The lighting was a bit difficult - late afternoon sun with patches of shade.

All with D800 and Sigma 120-300 with 1.4x TC.

All good pics. The light is really not a major concern with these IMHO Alan. The photos tell a good story and you've captured it well. Nice natural fauna in it's glory - having a feed on local delicacies.

#3 great BIF, but the b/g is a bit busy - see comment above

#4 Wonderful portrait with great detail and eye contact - nice colour too. My favourite.

Very nice.. except for the beetle, of which I am sure it was not nice for.
Love that take off shot with the blur in all the right places and the last one has the lovely bokeh going on.

nice series of a kooka not eating the usual stuff. portrait is my fav.

Great story telling. I've a set of a Kooka throwing a baby Wren in the air then eating it. My kids were not impressed! (I thought it a shot of a lifetime)!

I would agree about the shot of a lifetime, but would still have very mixed feelings about it.
