  • Arachnid strewn path to a sharp tailed sandpiper and oyster catcher pair.

Arachnophobic I am not, but I must admit I was feeling a bit like the Hobit captured by Shelob about 25 metres into it all. Only the zoom lens on hand.. really doesn't do the sheer amount and variety of spiders justice. I've never seen this many before.

I have never managed to get close to a sharp-tailed sandpiper... This one, I suspect, never expected someone to get through a million orb weavers of various kinds and this much web. I was photographing a distant pelican under a bridge when... it appeared and disappeared. Got one shot. :-)

I think pied oyster catchers are just so photogenic. This one was going about its daily karate kata.

More good pics Phoenix. The "Sharpie" is a pretty special shot.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

It was a great moment for me catching that sharpie. Strangely enough got another one yesterday. :-)

Like your WF Heron, I reckon you could crop a bit of mud from the bottom and add a bit of blue canvas on top - minor nit and personal taste

    Nice work

Yes, that would be better. Looks a little crowded on top. I was thinking rule of thirds for land and sky/water without considering the overall result.

Rules can be broken occasionally. I find myself deferring to the 1/3s line in PS crop a bit too often.

I have noticed that you show blatant disregard for the golden rectangle and the rule of thirds.
You will be saying that a phone can take better photos next... oh..

    Lovely series Jo, as usual.

In #2, maybe clone out the stick at the tip of the tail, and maybe the one just above the body. Just a thought.

My indecision is final, I think.

Good work On these Jo. I have been assured that the orb weavers will quickly get out of your way and I almost believe it, but they leave their webs behind. Your persistence paid off here.
