  • Sacred Kingfisher

Anyone know how long these birds live. I visited Lord Howe in 1985 and took a shot with an Olympus OM1 (35mm slide) of a Kingfisher on the exact same tree stump. Doubt that it could be the same bird but I don't know.. any thoughts?

i don't know how long they live but I would be very surprised if it was that long. Nice image although the angle is a bit steep. Are you able to brighten the eye a little.

Re the steep angle.. it was sitting on top of a palm tree trunk about 10 metres up.

I could lighten it but I won't play with it too much. It was taken with a bridge camera as a record shot from my visit to Lord Howe. My intention in taking this camera was not so much to produce top quality images but to put together a Power Point presentation for family and friends and perhaps produce a calendar in the future.

      Thanks for commenting.

Hi Greg, I thought that might be the case but wasn't quite game to post based on that assumption. That's quite a way up.

It's a good all purpose camera with 25-600 FF equivalent zoom. I think Nikon P900 goes out to 1200mm but this camera retains F2.8 throughout the zoom range. Because that allows a higher shutter speed for those long shots, I find it helpful as I'm using it hand held all the time.
