Agree with Alan ^^ - 3 lovely images, all beautifully sharp & in focus where it counts !!
I like #1 & #3 photographically as they each show the bird 'right-way-up' - but as we all know, birds like children get themselves into all sorts of convoluted positions, even if it does end 'down-side-up'

Re the camera and lens combination, results can be excellent, but focus can be inconsistent. Seems more consistent at reasonably close distances but for subjects further way it's a bit hit or miss. I hadn't used the 2x TC for a while as I wasn't happy with the results, but I tried it again a couple of times recently and it has performed very well.

good result with the 2x plenty of details again. tad busy but the habitat saves the day. look too saturated to me also. we only get the new hollands around my way

Thanks Stephen. Had another look at the processing re saturation. I normally use Photoshop and the Nik collection, so tried them in Nikon's Capture NX-D.The bird and leaves are close to Nikon standard but the sky does look a bit overdone, particularly in 2 and 3.

as an aside, I used to use nikon capture nx2 for raw conversion and photoshop to finish. this was because nx seemed to be the only real way to get the images converted.
the new photoshop seemed to change that. so I abandoned nx2. nx-d was a giveavay last time I checked so the love was gone form it imho.
I did some checking and found some deliberately overexposed pix were more recoverable with later versions of photoshop than nx2. had a quick look at nx-d when it was in beta but these days (imho anyhow) photoshop has its act together in the raw conversion department and all I use these days.

meant to mention that 2 and 3 are the two shots that look over saturated to me.

I also use Photoshop almost exclusively. I downloaded Capture NX-D to try on some images where I was having trouble getting the colour right as some people still claim it gives a better raw conversion. I don't like it much, bit it's useful for checking out Nikon's version.
