  • Channel-billed Cuckoo

Found this in a park last December. Unfortunately it didn't seem to want to pose in the open for me.

Another one I'm yet too see.

Yes, shame about the branches - but I guess they have to perch on something - the joys of bird photography

Have never seen one before either .... he has a rather 'chunky' beak ... nice capture of his under colours

Thanks Barb and Alan. They are heard more than seen - raucous screeching, usually from the tops of tall trees

He's too busy raiding nests to pose for photos
Nice shot. Great birds despite their not so nice natural behaviour at times.

I like the image wigz. I read up on these interesting birds and they are rather cheeky. They lay their eggs in other birds nests 'cause they are too lazy to build their own. AND they let the other parents feed the bubs until they fledge! Maybe we humans could learn a thing or two from them.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Rather nice shot under the conditions Alan. I can't recall ever seeing one of these birds, even though they do range right up the Qld coast.
              Cheers, Brad.

                  Thanks all.

They are certainly interesting birds. Years ago I saw a baby Koel (another cuckoo) being fed by its foster parents. The baby looked twice the size of the parents.
