The males are spectacular when you see them in flight.

I couldn't quite get a clear shot at the female even though it was a lot closer. It took me quite a while to identify it, but the black marking on the head appears to be distinctive.

Beautiful birds - I've only seen them once before I think. Lucky you.

Nice and close for sure. Maybe cropped a bit tight?

#1 looks a bit soft and missed focus on the eye - or maybe it's due to uploading here?

#2 looks even noisier in the B/G. 3200 ISO may have something to do with it or maybe some cropping? But better detail. (Purists may like to see the tail.)

#1 does look a bit soft. It is a significant crop.
#2 is marginal and I only kept if because it's the only image I have of the female. It wasn't very cooperative and stayed in the shade and didn't hang around.

From what I can see, the IQ is pretty reasonable. Maybe it's because they are not the most gorgeous looking creature.

Not birds I've ever seen in the wild.
I find black a difficult colour to get nice detail on when I'm shooting birds.
I like the eye contact in the male and well done on the detail in the female's feathers..
