  • running on water

was at belevedere when some people turned up to feed the birds. not supposed to but they do anyhow
I quickly ran near them and lay down to see if they would cooperate for some pix.
if the wind going the right way, they run right towards the feeders. had to take advantage of that
pick one swimming towards you in a good spot, focus and get ready if it flies or runs, crack off some shots

Impressive action shot. Well caught. An outstanding shot of a common species. A great example of using your knowledge of their behaviour to great advantage..

DITTO Did well to keep him in focus.

Nice one Stephen. As it's FF, it precludes giving the bird a bit more space to fly into I guess

Very nice as is anyway and I'm equally impressed with, "I quickly ran near them and lay down" That is now beyond me.

          Cheers

yeah the only way is to add canvas, and as for the run, it was more a brisk walk. I did see the people arriving to feed the birds and at that stage the birds were scabbing across the lake but starting to make their way over. plenty of time to waddle over.

Hans: I practice very often with tracking moving stuff and keeping in focus. I posted a thread about settings used also somewhere. actually the head on ones are easy to track cos no panning or very little is involved. you just keep the subject in the centre and bump focus as it is coming closer. then you spray and pray when it is in range. with good contrast and light most afs style lenses can handle the focus just fine. single af point for this. the centre one so the camera cant decide it likes the water better than the subject.
