  • got a woody

spring has sprung. starting to see the birds getting friendly and some already have kids.
just packing up the other day when a wood duck family showed up. mum dad and 3 kids. so had to unpack again.
few pix of mum and dad, but the kids were what I wanted.
tough gig too cos you cant approach them or risk invoking the ire of mum and dad
    but
you can position your self where they might go and take pot luck.
very often came inside minimum focus on the 600 (4.7m) so the 200-500 came into play. it has 2.2m minimum focus and the ability to zoom out.
managed a few pix of the ducklings
this one full frame but cropped to portrait

    d4 200-500f5.6 @380mm 1/800 f8 iso 1600 handheld lying on the ground.

Cute as I got some similar photos some years ago at a Caravan Park where they were used to people. Same thing - I had to keep moving back as they kept getting too close

Lovely shot. There were plenty of those at our lake but sadly only one left. I think we have a few cats roaming around.
