  • Splendid Fairy Wren

Nearly spring and the males have blued up very nicely. Have a nice shot of the female.... but can't stand the sticks and struggled to remove them without leaving traces. this one is backed by samphire which creates beautiful colourful bokeh quite naturally.

Was wondering when you would post this.

Saw it on FB and was blown away! You have to be happy with the 200-500mm.

Beautiful Blues - sharp as - eye level and eye contact with catch light - silky Samphire b/g - even got a little spider web

Love it, (if I had to be a bit picky I'd maybe crop a bit off the top)

    Well done Jo

Thanks Caralan.. didn't want to flood the forum with birds...:-)
I thought the crop off the top too... the blue at the top is a bit of a distraction. I worried about the rule of thirds and keeping the golden rectangle... :-) Compromises!

A busy Forum is a good Forum .

Cropping is always so personal. I've been trying the16:9 ratio to confirm to my TV on which I show my images as a slide show - just looks neater.

You could try to de-saturate that blue area a bit and see what it looks like

The blue is incredible. I love them when are molting back to their old colours too and look like a shaggy patchwork.

I had a quick look in the equipment section and couldn't see your review... but it is the 200-500 nikon 5.6.
Had a few issues with using it with the D7100 but have since switched to using a D800 and am so much happier with the results.

idly curious what issues you may have had with the lens. does seem a good walkaround lens to me

Focus issues. Just couldn't seem to consistently nail a shot. Always seem to focus in front.
Did the adjustments... even posted a how to http://www.ausph.com/forum/technical-times/technical-issues-and-tutorials/415231-front-focusing-issue-with-new-nikkor-5-6-500mm-fixed

Subsequently I have had issues with the camera with other lenses also and as it works beautifully with the D800 I think it was the camera not the lens.

Nailed it Phoenix. FF camera seems to be working for you. Beautiful photo of a small bird - detail is spot on, colours as well.

I think the full frame is quite helpful when you are shooting moving birds also...plus the wider field gives more scope for various crops. I'm a full frame convert (at the moment).

Well done getting the bird against a clean background. Excellent pose, colour, composition and sharpness.
