  • Red-browed Finches

Neochmia temporalis. Not the best perch, but the only one they sat on long enough for me to try and focus. The Tamron again with a reasonable crop.

    Lovely capture Alan

Interesting red stripe slapped across their face and beak ..... constantly amazed at the varying patterns in our wild life.

I can see how they earned their name.
Would love to come across these in the wild.
I imagine they wouldn't hold still for a second. I like the pose and that you have a pair.
The background is really quite distracting to me. I suspect you have already done a Gaussian blur so can't offer any constructive advice on a fix.

Haven't been there, not done that.

Thanks Jo. There is a flock of these on the local headland and they are real fidgets and spend a lot of time on the ground or hiding in bushes if disturbed.

The b/g was even worse before I reduced the bright greens and yellows and yes, I did apply some lens blur, but too much and it starts to look unnatural.

I was just pleased to get a photo at all with the Tamron. I should go back with the Nikon and a tripod and more patience - it's only a short walk.

          Cheers

looks to hold up for the crop.

we got lots of those things around here. mostly by the bike track though and lots of people go by.
would happily trade them from some of Jo's splendids though

Pretty birds. Haven't seen them this far south.
