Have been trying to place the flocks of birds in the landscape rather than just focus on the birds and have a couple of images I'm pretty happy with.
The gorgeous pink sand caught my eye in the first image and I was lucky enough to capture a small flock in the background. with just enough distant background to 'straighten' the image.
The colour of the sand changes regularly. During spring tides the water laps at the base of the red pindan cliffs (unseen in this image) and the sand can have a red, orange, yellow or pink/magenta cast before changing back to boring old white during neaps. It's quite beautiful.
The rocks are darker than I'd like but I may play with this at a later date.
Now this image is one that's been rattling around in my head for a long time and I'm pleased to finally capture the scene as I envisioned it. A rare event for me!
I wanted red cliffs and rocks in the background, some beach sand and a small flock of birds. Most importantly of course I wanted good light and that's the real tricky bit because the birds don't appear on the beach till the incoming tide forces them off the mudflats and this never happens till mid or late morning .
But this is why I love the wet season!
On this day there was a thin layer of cloud working almost as a polarising filter. It varied during the morning, sometimes the sun would break through and the light was too harsh, sometimes the cloud was too heavy and the cliffs turn a dull brown mushy yuck.
It all came together for just a few minutes and I was lucky enough to have just the right number of birds fly past my chosen spot at the right time. Used a high shutter speed (1/2000) to freeze the birds and reduce the amount of blur in the background as I panned for the shot.
