Based on what I've seen of your recent photos here I'm a bit surprised there's not more detail in the wings.
Is it a big crop or trying to bring underexposed detail up?
Or none of the above?
(I'm using old reading glasses for the next week, until my usual ones are updated. So you can say it's just my glasses not seeing things right.)
Nonetheless it looks like something I'd like to capture

You have a good eye Mark.
As an experiment I shot in medium raw (Canon 7d) in attempt to keep noise levels down. That worked a treat but IQ suffers way too much for my liking.
Might be fine for other genres at a pinch but not for birding.
This set was slightly underexposed as well so that didn't help, haven't done much birding of late and am rusty!-----------------------------------------------------

Must have been a marvellous site. ALways tricky shooting into a bright sky and hard to know how to focus when there's a mob spread out.
It has lost detail, but it is still a wonderful image with its repetition and subtle colours.
It has a lovely but sImple Asian feel about it. Could see it as a silk print.

Thanks Jo. It was a large flock of about a hundred. They were circling and swirling about in the sky but a few hundred metres high so way out of range.
Lovely to see them though. This was the only low pass on offer.
Wet season camping in the Kimberley has many rewards.
