There's a bit of motion blur visible, for kookas I'd recommend a faster shutter speed, maybe 1/1200 or even better if you can go to 1/1600 or faster.

You have some room to move by using a larger aperture, no need to use f/9, f/5.6 would be much better and that will allow a faster SS without having to crank up the iso.

The Canon 400mm - is that the 400mm prime you are using? - is sharp when wide open. What you need is a higher shutter speed.

Nice job MarkL. I use similar settings.
Shutter priority (Tv) mode : SS 1200-1600 : f4.5 - f5.6 : Spot Metering : Auto ISO.
It gives me excellent results.

I understand and know what you are all saying, but you don't know I know. And it does help others other that wonder by.
Bird gave me about 5 seconds to try something.

Charles the lens is the Sigma 120-400DG.
