    I think.
    Over 50 metres away I was really stretching the friendship to get a shot of it.. Pretty happy I got something .

                Thanks all. Yes quite happy and surprised it came out as well as it did. It was a dull rainy day and I had just left the Arboretum when the bird flew across the road in front of me and sat on the picket about half way down an adjoining paddock. I stopped the car and grabbed the camera and didn't even turn the hood around.

                The shots were taken at maximum zoom (500) plus X2 what Sony calls "in camera teleconverter" which is just a form of digital zoom.

                I'm finding that if you can bump up the ISO until you get around F8 with a high shutter speed (1/1600), in this case ISO 800, I can get a quite acceptable image. The camera was rested on the roof of the car.
