ID:	407190 I was giving my new lens (100-400 L IS USM MkII) a workout for the first time this morning, again, waiting for the corellas to rise, when this bloke appeared in the palm across the road. Purely reflex and opportunistic, I was able to get a couple of shots before it departed. These birds are quite quick and erratic in flight and not very large, this makes it a bit of a challenge to get really sharp shots. Whoever named them "Noisy" got it right, they are, but not unpleasant. It was across the road and about 200 metres away. The images are enlarged, and cropped, but otherwise pretty much straight out of the camera.

Good shots. Definitely not the prettiest bird but so different they are interesting. I prefer #2 of these with him clutching onto that palm frond and well isolated - great catchlight in the eye as well. Have fun with your new toy.

It's a bit of a shame, that Murphys Law will always prevail, the top shot would have been better had the lens not focused on the palm instead of the bird. Thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Tricky to get a black headed bird in good quality light to see the eyes clearly. yet you have done so.
This bird reminds me of Ms Magpie with it's haughty looks.

More luck than good judgement, Jo. Sometimes we get lucky.
