A dripping tap..

is all it took!

Have been watching this family of native hens every week since the little ones were born. I've been working towards them over time to gain their trust and yesterday I noticed them approach me evey time I washed my hands or anything else using the tap outside the workshop. So I left it running slowly and it's exactly what they wanted.

Picked up the camera and sat down in front of them and here's some of the results.

Q- does the change of eye colour signify adult? or male/female?

All the adults I see have red eyes.. so I guess that's it. Not sure whether they are male or female.

Great series of shots Greg. The chick still has to grow into those feet and like the scruffy feathers. They'll have to put in bird baths (ground level for these) to keep them cool over the summer months.

Thanks Scott. I think that's the secret with any wildlife photography. Get to know your subjects and then be there at the right time.
