  • Great Egret in Flight

    Hi

Finding it hard to get enthused lately, but I took the camera with me at lunch time to some ponds near Bungendore. The midday light was not ideal and not much was happening until a lone egret turned up. The camera refused to auto focus for some reason (thinking 1.7 TC), so I only got a couple of flukes.

    Great Egret, Ardea modesta.

    Nice flukes.

Love the head turn in #1, good wing position and detail considering the midday light.

I'm also a big fan of bird in habitat images so #3 rocks my boat.

I wish some of my flukes looked this good. Nice work Alan.

My indecision is final, I think.

These are beautiful. I love the painterly look of the bokeh, particularly #3.

All good pics Alan, I manage to get quite a few egret shots at our local lake, even an egret and white faced heron sitting side by side up in a tree. They really are graceful. Nice captures.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Getting focused shots of a bird flying straight at you must be amongst one of the most challenging shots to do. My AF never keeps up with them.
I'd be ecstatic if I managed to do it.
Very enjoyable to see your egret images, glad you took the time to take and share them.

Haven't been there, not done that.

you did well in midday light.

I find my lenses focus ok in decent light with the 1.7
                busy backgrounds not withstanding.
                what lens?

Thanks Stephen - yes, normally with good light AF works fine with this combo - not sure what I was doing wrong this time.

sometimes dirty contacts etc can do you in, but usually you might notice other issues too and realise, so I got nothing for you.........
