Porphyrio porphyrio. Elmslea Ponds, Bungendore. I never seem to be able to get a decent shot of these common birds. Being reed dwellers, there always seems to be vegetation in front of them. I cloned a few stems out. Midday light didn't help - need to get there earlier next time

I agree! For such a large bird they're surprisingly timid... Must've been a long lens or the tails would've been flicking up!

Nice job of getting this pair in their environment. Hard to spot where you did any cloning.

Haven't been there, not done that.

Thanks Tim and Jo - I'll keep trying to do them justice - there is photo potential here somewhere - I just haven't worked out how to do it - (yet)

Keep trying Alan. You did well with these two.

One of these guys turned up at my place a few years ago, and wanted to be my best friend. Very tame and liked being photographed.

My challenge is a Night Heron which is so timid, it flies away when I look out the window 100m away. I've ordered a kangaroo suit as a disguise.

My indecision is final, I think.

This looks good and certainly can't spot the cloning. There are lots of these in a small pond where I walk the dogs and always turn their backs and head off if I point a camera.
