  • Using old gear

I recently decided that I was not giving my 2011 Fuji X10 enough love and spent a whooping $25.00 on eBay for two new batteries and a US charger,
The X10 is a 12MP 2/3" CMOS sensor with Fujis EXR technology included. the native sensor dimension are 4x3 which also gives a different look. The 28-122 F2-2.8 lens with OIS really make it an ideal throw in the bag take anywhere camera. Basically over the years I had forgotten about the camera and have been using its APS-C sensor sized relatives.
These photos are in EXR auto mode and the only editing is a small crop on one.

even the tiny pop up on board flash works quite well.

Yes, we kinda get blinded by GAS!. I remember my old Pentax Ist, with just 6mp did a really good job. But of course, one had to work harder with composition and getting the right distance etc. Now, we can crop to 1/9th of the original pixel count and still get sharp photos...

Good results from a 10+ year old camera. Advances in technology really have slowed down over the last ten years. What is EXR technology?

        Thanks.
Over the years since digital photography started Fuji have been the only company that has really gone their own way with sensors. They had the Super CCD then the EXR and now X-Trans. In EXR they rearranged the colour filter array so it was not the standard Bayer pattern. EXR was not really good for RAW it was primarily designed to produce great jpegs and it does. It can be used to increase dynamic range. lower signal noise (great for low light) and improve resolution. When you look at then detailed spec of the X10 its apparent that it had, 13 years ago a lot of features that are only being introduced into newer cameras in the last few years. The implementation is better in the new cameras but really this little gem was way ahead of its time.
    Working...
