Despite the processing this is quite interesting. In recent years large numbers of this species Thamnaconus degeni have been found washed ashore along the South Eastern seaboard including Tasmania, Thought to be 'Degen's Leatherjacket, a species which normally inhabits deeper waters up to 80 meters. It was speculated that there may have been a sudden change in temperature or oxygen levels which contributed to the mass death of juvenile stock.
There's much that's not known and I see them regularly in temperate Tassie waters around reef structures so they're not uncommon.
