I have 'ditched' using PS and am going back to Elements12 (as well as nik collection and LR) ...... I still have 6 months to go with my PS subscription, so will use intermittently such as using pen tool to cut out objects. I find I am not using the full toolbox, and if I am honest it is overwhelming. The PS subscription has opened up 'new tools' that I did not know existed in Elements. I feel much happier/more relaxed back in Elements.

Anyway this image flowed from my fingers using elements and nik ....

    That looks terrific Barb.

My old version of PS is well and truly out of date, but I only use a fraction of it's capability. I don't like the idea of on line subscription. Not sure what to do to upgrade as I don't learn well by read and do.

Getting a bit long in the tooth for some of the technology (Have trouble with phones too). I like to be shown how then have a go myself.

For some reason I don't get a handle on a lot of the on line tutorials.

Fabulous work Barb. I like the effect and it's a perfect subject for your PP. Shame about PS though, It ha some very powerful tools.

        Beautifully realised Barb

I'm still hanging on to my old unsupported PS

I don't want to get into a subscription service either.

        Maybe I won't have a choice soon...

The simplified colour palette works well in decluttering bush scenes and helps bring out that terrific leading line in the board walk and woody texture in the trees.
I was wondering how it would look if you tried to copy and paste this over the original and bring the opacity down in places (such as the board walk) to bring some less abstract areas.

Thanks Greg, Isac, Alan and Jo

I thought I wanted 'more' tools to play with .... in fact I just needed to learn how to use the ones I already had available. If I was going to make editing a 'full time' job then yes PS CC would be the way to go (along with Illustrator) .... but I just like to play around. If you have a hard copy of PS then you will always have tools available ..... I have the hard copy of Elements 12. I love online tutorials and will always be on the lookout for more ideas, tips and tricks.

Jo I tried blending back with the original ... but I prefer the overall look of the one above.

              G'day all

My compliments to Barb on a 'real beaut' forest scene - 10/10 from me coz it's really got it all
As to Elements vs PS .... I agree with "I thought I wanted 'more' tools to play with .... in fact I just needed to learn how to use the ones I already had available"

I find that after years of use, I am "locked into" those tools that give me regular image editing & fixups, and rarely go outside the square. I see things like the above and am in awe as to how 'easy' it is to do them once you discover how to do it ~ and that's the issue.

Making the effort to discover these new tricks

Hi Phil ..... you are too kind

It's amazing how 'less stressed' I am when using Elements compared to PS. Hunting around for tutorials on how to use PS enabled me to see that most of the tools I play with are already available in Elements .....and in doing so I have been given the 'best gift' in gaining the knowledge to use them more efficiently.

Pinterest is a great site to find tutorials and general info.

You should do book illustrations you'd do well.
